My Bio

Hi everybody!  My name is Matthew Kent, and I currently call Middlebury, Vermont home.  I live there with my wife Laurel, our 3 year old son Desmond, and our 1 year old daughter Sonnie.  I was born and raised in the small Vermont town of Orwell, where I had an amazing childhood comprised of playing backyard sports, hunting and fishing, as well as lots and lots of exploring.  Being active is a large part of my life.  In my younger years, you would find me playing lots of sports such as baseball, football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, golf, tennis, and softball.  These days, activity comes in the form of mountain biking, rock climbing, backpacking, fishing, camping, and snowboarding.  I did my undergraduate studies at Castleton University where I studied Exercise Science, with a minor in Coaching.  I worked in numerous fields before deciding to change paths and pursue education.  So back to school I went, graduating from Champlain College's Teacher Apprenticeship Program for Physical Education.  I believe my passion for movement and health, coupled with my love for working with kids serves me well as I enter this new chapter in my life.

My overall philosophy is this...get kids to appreciate movement, fitness, health, and wellness so they can carry this appreciation throughout their lives in the pursuit of happiness.  I want to take the "pressure away" in physical education.  Gym needs to be a subject for all.  In my mind it's not about educating athletes, it's about teaching them the tools to be independently active so they can achieve lifelong enjoyment of physical activity.

Cheers everybody!
